Title: Hoplite shields
Post by: Paulalba on October 15, 2014, 12:05:40 PM
Hi,
Really enjoying painting up my hoplites however have a small question. In the packs of xyston hoplites with linen cuirass and unarmoured there are a selection of both the larger shield and a slightly smaller shield.

Having not much knowledge on ancients I take it that as the troops supplied their own kit that there would be different sizes and quality of equipment, would this be to represent that sort of thing?

Daft question I know.

Cheers
Paul

It's a bit odd... we only do one type of hoplite shields which are all the same size, did you buy a DBA Army Pack or single pack?

In reality the seize of shields could vary slightly.

I picked up an athenian army pack last year at a show. Can't remember what show? The are definitely the same style yet 4 out of the 8 are just  a little smaller in size. No bother, was just wondering. I'll post pics when they are finished.

I've bought a load more from different places since.

Very enjoyable to paint, a nice change from Naps.
Cheers
